St. Nick Day is Shortcake’s favorite holiday. Bar none.
Okay, so maybe Pi Day is a close second. Go here for quick primer. Done?
Shortcake’s mom always sends presents.
Traditional presents are a storybook, an ornament, chocolate (sweet treat),
nuts (Northern European tradition), and oranges (a special treat in Medieval
Northern Europe – try growing oranges there in the winter). This year, the presents package was lost in
the mail, but the cookies arrived.
Shortcake shared cookies, along with clementines and the mint chocolate-chip
brownies she made. Her friend Holly (not
cookies Holly, the other one) brought stickers and ornaments and reindeer
antlers. Here was the spread:
Michael from Live with
Kelly and Michael visited Santa. He
brought a news crew and an entourage. It
was probably 12 men in suits, plus the Macy;s media people, plus a hair and
make-up person (for Michael, not Santa – Santa always looks great), and two
children to see Santa and the camera people.
It was excessive. Seriously. The only person who needs that much entourage
is Santa, and he can get by with a few elves who are just as dedicated to
preserving his safety as these fancy suited up security people were. Shortcake has never even heard of this
Michael person. Harumph.
